About Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana (www.youth-resources.org)

Over the past 24 years, Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana has helped over 145,000 young people. We exist to nurture and empower ALL youth in our area to value themselves and be a viable part of their community now – by addressing problems facing their community in real-time.

Youth Resources runs evidence-based leadership development and community service peer-based programing that increase students' awareness of others’ needs and encourage life-long civic responsibility. The Youth Resources TEENPOWER, Teen Advisory Council, Vanderburgh County Teen Court and Make A Difference Grant Programs provide peer-based/youth-led mentoring programming with numerous community leader shadowing opportunities.

Youth Resources was the lead agency in the successful collaborative effort that won Evansville the America's Promise: Top 100 Best Communities for Young People Award. Youth Resources provides four of the five Promises through its evidence-based programming.

1. YR empowers young people to take ownership of community challenges, devise action plans to address them, and implement youth-led service projects!

2. Youth who volunteer just one hour or more a week are 50% less likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. (The Search Institute)

3. Youth who volunteer are more likely to do well in school; graduate; vote; and be philanthropic. (UCLA/Higher Education Research Inst)
