About this Petition:
The deadliest war since World War II is taking place right now in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and rape is used as a weapon in this war. Though this is taking place halfway around the world, we are directly linked to the conflict. The violence in Congo is being fueled by a multi-million dollar trade in minerals – the 3 T’s - that make our cell phones and other electronics function.
Over five million people have died as a result of the war.
Hundreds of thousands of women have been raped.
Congo's mineral wealth should be a source of prosperity and stability for the Congolese people, not a source of exploitation and violence. As the primary end-users of the 3 T’s, electronics companies bear a responsibility for cleaning up their supply chains. Our cell phones should not be fueling violent conflict. Electronics companies have an important role to play in being part of the bigger solution – ensuring that the Congolese people benefit from, rather than suffer because of, their natural resources.
We don’t want you to give up your cell phone. We want you to use it to make a positive impact for Congo.
As consumers of cell phones and other electronics, we can change the equation for Congo. Demand that the biggest end-users of the 3 T’s – consumer electronics companies – pledge to make their products conflict-free.

I just started the cause "Crossing Borders", which is Mike Kim's NGO organization (author of "Escaping North Korea").
Crossing Borders (from his website http://crossingbordersnk.wordpress. com/ ): is an organization dedicated to helping North Korean refugees who cross the border for food and medical assistance. We also have several orphanages, which house children whose parents have abandoned or are unable to take care of them.
We are a faith-based organization that is devoted to helping these refugees by giving them food, shelter and spiritual counseling. It is our goal to share the Christian faith with the refugees that we help though it is not required for our refugees to believe what we believe.

The enough cause is a great one, but it is sad that it comes from a biased and corrupt organization like "Center for American Progress." How does funding to help the suffering people of Africa translate into support for Liberal Democrats that never help anyone in need. Thanks Bill Clinton for making a bad situation worse... I am no supporter of GW Bush... but at least he tried, with no support, to help those in need in Africa.

Today the House of Representatives introduced the Conflict-Free Congo Minerals Act of 2009, the first step towards ending the deadliest war in the world. If passed, the bill would prohibit cell manufacturers from importing the four conflict minerals--which are key components in our cell phones, laptops, iPods and other electronics-- into the United States.
