About Take Action: Stop weapons reaching Zimbabwe

Amidst the current tense situation in Zimbabwe, with news of increasing political violence, a Chinese ship, An Yue Jiang, is carrying a cargo of weapons and ammunition bound for Zimbabwe. After South Africa refused to allow overland transport of the cargo from Durban to Zimbabwe, the ship was last reported to be heading for Angola or Mozambique.

Because of the risk that weapons could be used in political violence, we call on Zimbabwe's neighbours not to allow cargos of arms bound for Zimbabwe to pass through their territory.

We also call on China and other countries to refrain from supplying weapons to conflict zones.

1. Countries should not sell or transport weapons to Zimbabwe in the current political crisis.

2. We call on all political parties in Zimbabwe to refrain from violence.

3. We call on the international community and especially African states, to help the people of Zimbabwe solve their problems peacefully.
