La Maison Immaculée is a home where 19 orphaned children live and are being raised by Mama Immaculée, the founder of this community of children. It is located in the city of Goma, in the Kivu province, Eastern Congo - a war zone, to say the least. A map of DRC fyi: http://www.rfi.fr/actufr/images/092/rdc_goma_430.jpg
All the kids living in this orphanage are in school and their mother thrives to provide them with as normal a life as possible in a region troubled by war, rape, violence and poverty. I decided to start raising funds to support my friend Mike's efforts to help the kids at Maison Immaculée. He has known them for about 6 years when he began working in my native Congo and when he told me about those kids, I couldn't help but to feel that I needed to put my heart and soul into it to help them as much as I can. As a Native of the Congo and an adopted child myself, I feel deeply about this cause; I hope you will help them too! Mama and the kids spent Christmas being terrified as they were unsure of what would become of them. There was an outbreak of violence and for the kids it wasn't Santa coming to town, instead the M23, an armed group, was taking over the city of Goma. Can you imagine being 5 or 6 or 7 and going through that? Awful, right? Luckily for them, Mama loves them and is keeping them together as a family. This fundraiser works as follows: I'm encouraging you to "pledge" to donate any amount of your choosing via www.causes.com and you can then make your donation in person to me. I'm writing receipts as well, so you are entitled to one. Then, once our fundraising campaign is over, all the money will be sent to Mama and the kids at Maison Immaculée via wire transfer. In an effort to maximize transparency, I'll request on our behalf that a video be made to confirm receipt of all our funds to them.
Our goal is to raise $1000 for Maison Immaculée and I know we are able to do it. Let's help each other and make this happen for the youngins!!!
