As a rescuer myself, I can absolutely support the statements below -- if you call a shelter and ask if they can take a cat, the answer is first and foremost 'no, we are full.' 100% Supporting the post below "This family is doing a service to the township by taking in unwanted and stray cats that local shelters can not take due to space restrictions. Call any shelter and ask if they can take a stray and the answer is no. Since the township has not gotten a hand on their stray and unwanted cat issue, this family stepped up and offered their home to these cats. That ordinance restricting the number of pets is in place due to hoarders and unsanitary conditions they keep animals in that can affect community health. This is not a hoarding case, nor are these animals dangerous to the well being of the community. The township needs to step out of people's private lives when there is no apparent threat to community well being and health, and when there is not a crime, or other illegal activities occurring. They are wasting taxpayers money pursuing these folks and their cats."

This is ridiculous. While PA abounds in puppy mills where animals live in deplorable conditions, a good-hearted couple who rescues cats, provides vet care and a clean comfortable environment, with no odor or noise complaints, is being forced to give their pets up? Manheim Township needs to reverse this decision immediately.

I know that the ordinance is in place for those who have way too many animals that can't be properly cared for. The unfortunate ones who suffer from abuse and neglect. However, these cats are all being cared for, up-to-date with the vet, and aren't hurting anything or anyone. I would argue that one cat is too many if it's not being cared for. The township and law-makers need to take into account the quality of life rather than the quantity.

Hi Scott, I'm in Berks Cty., not far from you. I am an animal lover, and I am often on Facebook sharing animals in need of adoption/rescue/foster. For the 1st time i was about to disagree with a cause. Even if the Twp. is irresponsible, although I don't know what you would do with the cats. For a regular household, 44 or 39 or even 25 cats are too many, BUT now that you say all are spayed/neutered and are being cared for (and the Twp. is no help), I have to sign the cause. I hope you are truly caring for these cats. I will share your msg. in hopes that others will also sign the petition. :)

These cats are all vetted and are posing no nuisance to the area. These people are obviously very responsible pet owners and should be allowed to continue the wonderful service they are providing to these otherwise homeless cats. As an administrator of a Facebook site for lost & found pets (FIND TOBY in PA), I have seen my share of unworthy & totally irresponsible pet owners with only ONE pet. The township & surrounding people should really mind their own business.

This petition is to urge Manheim Township, Lancaster PA to allow this family to keep all of their cats. With the cats all living in humane and pristine living conditions, Manheim Township should not regulate the number of cats the family is allowed to have. Please see petition for more details.
