I think getting the infrastructure in place is the biggest hurdle, then we can focus on faster and more frequent service. I just got back from Europe as well and was impressed all around by mass transit. I have a feeling when oil supplies truly peak, Amtrak will get back a lot of the subsidies it has lost to airlines. Anyways, would like to see and hear more about the commuter rail in local media. Nearly everyone I know between Fort Collins and Denver knows very little or nothing at all about the concept.

I can't wait for this to happen. I am kind of unhappy about the projected speed of 70mph though. I think the biggest draw for people to ride a train is that it is fast. When i used to live in Germany it was worth walking to and from the station to take the train into the city because the train took 9.5 minutes and the bus took 20. If you beat the speed of the other options then people will be more likely to ride. Lets run it at 90mph. I am most interested in the front range portion between Colorado Springs and Denver.
