Amazon.com is allowing people to sell products made from Bear Bile. Bears are kept in horrendous conditions that cause physical and emotional suffering to the bear.
Bears are forced to spend their days in cages, some of these cages are known as ‘Crush cages’ and prevent the bear from being able to turn around. A tube is inserted into their gallbladder/bile duct and bile is extracted daily, often the equipment is old and rusty causing infection. In order to produce the maximum amount of bile food and water is withheld. A bear can live up to 30 years and some spend their entire lives in these tiny cages in excruciating pain – their paws never having touched the ground. Commonly bile is extracted from the Asiatic Black bear which is an endangered species and listed as ‘vulnerable’ on the World Conservation Union's (IUCN's) Red List of Threatened Animals.
