Posted by Emilia on Aug 19

Dear VETSOS Friends and Volunteers,

We are very excited to invite you to participate in the upcoming free training to become a Certified Volunteer Animal Disaster Service Worker.

The training will be provided by the Disaster Preparedness Coalition for Animals (DPCA). The DPCA is comprised of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, The San Francisco SPCA, Pets Are Wonderful Support, Pets Unlimited and Vet SOS.

San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium

Your donation goes to support the core mission of:
San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

Background: In 1982, the executive directors of 9 community clinics in the bay area came together to form the Consortium as a leadership organization that would preserve the role of community clinics as safety-net providers in a new era of escalating health care costs and diminished public funding. Since its creation, the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium (SFCCC) has become a cornerstone of San Francisco's health care delivery system. A recipient of the Primary Care Achievement Award for Excellence in Patient Care in 1996 (an award funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts), the Consortium has been distinguished for providing direct services as well as managing multi-site grant projects for our partner clinics.

The Consortium works for the common good of its partner clinics and their patients by providing a spectrum of centralized programs and management services that enhance and expand the delivery of care. By integrating their shared needs into one agency, the Consortium helps its partners to reduce clinic overhead costs and the duplication of services. This streamlined approach not only better serves patients, but also creates a cohesive, cost-effective network that helps to strengthen and stabilize the safety net.

The Consortium returns nearly 90% of its total funding to partner clinics for direct services, and supports its partnerships in six principal areas:

* Program design and grant administration
* Health policy leadership and advocacy
* Recruitment and retention of health professionals and volunteers
* Training and technical assistance
* Partnership coordination and advancement
* Resource and community development

The community health centers that make up the SFCCC have been providing high quality, culturally appropriate, cost effective health care services to their communities for years. The relationships these clinics have developed with their patients, neighborhoods and the Bay Area at large are strong and long lasting. In order to preserve and nurture these relationships, and to continue to provide excellent services, the community health centers realize that they must meet the challenges presented by an evolving health care market place. With this in mind, SFCCC clinics are eager to explore opportunities and partnerships that will enable them to continue to meet their missions and further empower them to grow and prosper in the new health care environment.

The SFCCC and its partner clinics have a clear understanding of how San Francisco's health care delivery system is evolving. Recent reforms in health care legislation and market forces require that all health care providers critically examine their position in the changing environment. The goals of SFCCC therefore include maintaining access for all San Franciscans to the high quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate patient services provided by its Network of clinics.

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year!

Please consider joining the VET SOS cause on Facebook and help me to spread the word about this amazing project!

If possible, please also consider making a contribution to help underwrite the cost of our services-
As many of you know, we are a volunteer based project, operated by a human health care not-for-profit agency, the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium (SFCCC). We have been graced during the past 6 years with funding from the US Govt. and SFCCC for 2 part-time Americorps Outreach Worker positions. However, due to the govt. no longer offering part-time positions and during these hard financial times, SFCCC is facing many staff cut backs. In order to maintain our current level of services in the coming year we will need to raise another $9,000 to underwrite a full-time stipended Americorps Project Assistant position.
And, without the hard work of these dedicated individuals, VET SOS could absolutely NOT serve as many clients as we currently do!

Check it out! In 2009 we were busy!!!!

VET SOS 2009 Service Statistics

During 2009, VET SOS increased by 41% its free services to the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans and their humans:

o 905 animals received urgent & preventive veterinary care
o 65 animals were tested on-site for infectious diseases
o 661 animals received vaccinations
o 415 animals received medication
o 102 animals were spayed/neutered
o 8 animals received emergency medical transport & care
o 900 animals received food &/or pet supplies
o 378 animals received flea & tick preventative
o 124 animals received microchips
o 269 homeless San Franciscans with companion animals received human health referrals

Please consider helping with even a small donation- every act of kindness helps- and if you cannot donate- consider donating your skills and time as a VET SOS volunteer.

Wishing you all love and peace in 2010,

Ilana
