Dear HEAL friends,

It is an exciting time at HEAL the Children Foundation, Inc. My trip to
Kenya was a huge success. Before I left the country, I signed a land
agreement with a property owner and put a deposit down for two acres of
land in the Central Highlands of Kenya. By next February our organization
will own 20 acres of arable land with access to water and electricity. It
is the perfect place to provide a nurturing environment for the future
children of our HEAL home. I have attached a photo of a portion of our
land. It truly is a beautiful place! Currently, there are over 1,000
orphans living in the area around our property. These children need our
help, now. We have taken a huge step but we still have a lot of work ahead
of us. Our goal is to raise $125,000 by February 31, 2011. This will help
us secure all 20 acres of land, develop our system of sustainable
agriculture and build the initial buildings of the HEAL orphanage.

In order to reach this goal, we have many exciting fundraising
opportunities. I would like to highlight a program that was started by the
co-author of the "Under the Amani Tree" blog, Kate Ziehm. I contributed to
this blog when I was in Kenya and Kate was strongly affected by my
accounts of the children and hunger in the village. In order to help raise
money for HEAL, she began a program called "Give to Learn" through her
business, Alpacas of Easton, LLC. This program gives individuals an
opportunity to subscribe to one of her alpacas for a year. For only $50 a
year, you will receive monthly updates on the alpaca of your choice. There
will be pictures, videos and lessons on various aspects of alpaca farming.
It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about alpaca fiber and the
qualities that are important to it, what an alpaca eats, how they get
shorn, how they reproduce, and much more. Agriculture is a very important
part of our communities in the US and in communities around the world.
This program teaches about a type of agriculture that is found in our
local communities, while giving money to support the development of our
agricultural program at our “soon to be” orphanage in Kenya. One of the
great parts of this program is that 50% of your annual subscription fee
will be donated to HEAL the Children Foundation, Inc.

I am very excited about this program because it is a creative
fundraising method that offers a phenomenal educational opportunity for
anyone that chooses to subscribe. I hope that you will consider joining

In addition to this program, we are gathering volunteers to help with a
letter campaign. Feel free to contact me and help. We are also developing
a school initiative to give students a chance to learn more about our
mission and to help raise money. I will be speaking at a number of
churches in the next few weeks so that I can share the story of our work
and hopefully inspire others to get involved. I hope that you will
