Imagine an election where the government sends in troops to break up a political rally, arrest and jail the candidate and supporters who attend, and then arrest and beat the journalists who try to tell the story of what happened. That's the reality of election season in Omar al-Bashir's Sudan. With less than 90 days until… Read More

Sudan’s first multi-party elections in 24 years are scheduled for April 2010
For too long, a military dictatorship has monopolized power and wealth in Sudan, committing genocide in Darfur and violently oppressing the rest of the country. The corrupt regime in Khartoum has at every turn blocked political reforms necessary for free and fair elections to take place.
This is all about oil and diamonds. It makes me sick to be an American when America is so deeply involved with the terrorism going on in Africa. Until the oil runs out, it won't stop.

"A typical situation is this: The Janjaweed (armed militia supported by the Sudanese Government to carry out the genocide, alongside and independent of, the Sudanese Army) will enter a village on horse or camel back. They then set about causing as much mayhem and terror as possible: destroying houses and buildings, shooting the men, gang raping the women and children and shooting any who try to escape. The village is generally destroyed, families dispersed and separated, most killed. Those who manage to escape then attempt the long journey to an IDP (Internally displaced persons) camp.
Up to 400,000 people have died due as a result of direct attacks and conflict induced malnutrition and disease. The vast majority of these have been women, children and civilian men.
More than 3 million people have been displaced and are living in IDP camps
More than 350,000 people are deprived of humanitarian support due to the threat of attack faced by aid workers. Thousands starve each month due to the Sudanese government impeding humanitarian aid efforts
A further 4 million Darfuri residents are dependant on limited international humanitarian assistance. The violence is now spilling onto neighbouring Eastern Chad."

Why can't we do for Darfur what we are doing for Haiti? The world is silent while genocide reigns there. Silence is consent.
On 3 February 2010, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) unanimously reversed ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I's decision of March 2009 not to include the crime of genocide in the arrest warrant against President Bashir of Sudan. The Appeals Chamber directed the Pre-Trial Chamber to decide anew whether a warrant of arrest should be extended to cover the crime of genocide based on the correct standard of proof.

I just committed to giving $25USD/monthly to a cause which has been shamefully back-burnered, again. The Sudanese Government, and their Dictator, 'President' al-Bashir, are openly trying to 'cleanse' Black-Africans from the Sudan. This is the first, and ongoing genocide of the Millenium.
The United Nations cannot take any sort of stand, because China buys Sudanese oil, on the cheap. The United States will not take a stand, because China holds so much of the United States' National Debt, it would be unwise to ruffle their feathers.
For whatever lame rationalisations, although al-Bashir is officially wanted, in connection with war-crimes, including genocide, (per the World Court Decision, 2008, I think) he travels at will, in both Africa, and amongst the Oil Producing Countries.
If no one else will take a stand, then by god and by damn, we MUST.
NOT ON MY WATCH!

On 8 February 2010, Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) declined to confirm charges of war crimes against Darfur rebel leader Bahr Idriss Abu Garda, hence refusing to move his case forward to trial. The decision does not prevent the Prosecution from subsequently requesting the confirmation of the charges against Abu Garda if supported by additional evidence. The Prosecution may also request leave to appeal the decision. This decision results from a public hearing held by Pre-Trial Chamber I from 19 to 30 October 2009, during which the ICC Prosecutor was required to support his charges with evidence. Abu Garda objected to the charges and challenged the evidence through his counsel. 78 victims participated in the hearing through four legal representatives.
