Prevent the M3 motorway from destroying millennia of Irish history embedded in the Hill of Tara, Ireland's premier national monument and ancient royal capital Learn More

The issue really isnt about the Hill of Tara itself but about the route of the M3 through the Tara Skryne valley which has many archaeological sites linked to the settlements on the Hill of Tara itself. Tara is quite a special location.I had the pleasure of visiting it last year with a dear friend from America who alas has recently died from Breast Cancer. The Hill is a really commanding spot overlooking the plains on every side
I dearly hope that the M3 can be rerouted though alas I doubt that it will at this stage.
Having experience of archaeological digs on Road sites I will say that any potential sites of significance are usually fully excavated and recorded prior to the road being built. At the end of the day even if the road does go ahead every single find along the route will be studied and listed giving a more complete picture of the history of the Valley itself.

Following the largest ever international gathering of archaeologists in Dublin, Ireland, the World Archaeological Congress has released a statement expressing its opposition to any further development alongside the new stretch of motorway in the wider landscape zone surrounding the historical site of Tara in Co Meath, Ireland.
The World Archaeological Congress strongly encourages the Irish Government to instigate formal protection measures for this area, and to consider nominating Tara for inscription as a World Heritage site.

Blessings in this latest effort..... ~S
I have invited all of my friends here on MySpace and all of my friends on Facebook. I probably didn't use the correct application, but, oh well, at least I am seeing some of them.

I'm with you with this! You know in Poland there is a beautiful, ecologically unique valley of Rospuda and they wanted to cut it in half with a highway. The battle lasted a couple of years but finally in the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 we won! And Rospuda is protected and the autoroute will go around! so it's definelely worth trying :)
