It is not just in Mexico City and South africa where people live at rubbish-dumps. In the tourist paradise Thailand, over 300 migrants from Burma lives at a rubbish-dump outside Mae Sot in the northwest. They collect plastics to sell and earn around 15 bath a day, which is hardly enough to provide basic food for their families. But in Burma the situation is far worse, there they cannot even get enough to feed their kids by having a proper job in Rangoon. The inflation is so bad they rather live at a dump selling plastic than stay in Burma.
The smell at this dump is unbearable, there are flies everywhere, glass splitter, batteries and other sharp objects that can hurt the children with no shoes on their feet. The women give birth at the dump and some people have lived there over ten years. The children are malnourished and for some the situation is really bad.
They predict more and more people will take their refuge to the dump during the election in Burma this May, since the election is far from democratic and people are threatened by the regime.
No one should have to live like this. Help the people by joining this cause and spreading the word about these people. Also support the NO vote in the referendum election in May, that is far from democratic and just a way for the Burmese regime to legitimize their power.
