a ministry for the homeless based out of trinity vineyard.
Lazarus Ministries was founded in November of 2000. It started with two people serving about 20 of Atlanta’s homeless weekly. Currently, in 2009, Lazarus has over 500 volunteers serving over a 1,000 homeless annually.
Lazarus serves the community in the following distinct ways:
1) Weekly Ministry: Lazarus equips and deploys teams of volunteers to the street with beverages, food, and a desire to connect relationally with the homeless. This simple, consistent kindness, every week has paved the way to help in forge trust with the homeless, increase their sense of dignity and worth, and enable Lazarus to help meet immediate needs and refer to other long term needs programs in the community.
2) Large Events: Several hundreds attend our three, large annual events (Superbowl party, Health Day with the Homeless, Lazarus Annual Christmas Party) where the community meets the needs of the homeless (physical and social needs) on a massive scale.
3) Resourcing and Networking Programs: In order for the community-at-large to be effective in helping the homeless---there must be collaboration between all the various programs, organizations, and ministries. Lazarus helps to foster this kind of collaboration.
4) Training and Education: We provide training for volunteers and the entire community in learning how to interact, work with, and assist the homeless population. We also provide lifeskills training and education directly to the homeless population.
5) Filling in Gaps: With our large volunteer base, when there are last minute needs at other programs and shelters.
1. vision: To see the homeless set free from spiritual, emotional, relational, and financial deprivation
2. mission: to involve the community in providing for the base needs of the homeless
3. we believe kindness breaks down barriers and meeting needs is crucial to faith
