Fanamby is an NGO engaged in conservation and local development in Madagascar
FANAMBY, a Malagasy NGO was founded in 1997 in reaction to the obvious urgent need to preserve biodiversity hotspots in Madagascar and to engage in poverty reduction.
Fanamby sets out to turn forest ecosystems that are not yet included in the current protected areas network into protected areas. Three major sites are: Daraina (North-East), Anjozorobe (midlands) and Central Menabe (South-West).
1. Better knowledge and understanding of biological, social and economic factors
2. Elaboration and application of the regional management plans
3. Improvement of local and regional capacities for a sustainable management
4. Support to the Waters and Forests Services in its good governance objectives
5. Partnership with the private sector and other national development projects/programmes
