Microfinance and the Adelante Foundation Mission:
"Adelante" in English means "forward" or "progress." Our mission is to improve the standard of living of the extreme poor in Honduras. To do that, we use a lending model called microfinance pioneered by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. In the right hands, the small-business loans we provide become COMMUNITY CAPITAL, with the power to make an immediate and lasting impact not only on individual families but entire villages. What's more, because money from repaid loans is recycled into new loans, microfinance creates renewable capital--investments that keep earning returns.
