Report about the Budapest Consultation
Health Consultation at Hope II, 11 and 12 May 2011in Budapest, Hungary with 42 participants from 18 countries: Chaplains, Doctors, Educators, Mission workers, Organization Leaders, Nurses, Pastors.
The following organizations were represented: Global Hope Network International (GHNI), Healthcare Christian Fellowship International (HCFI), Partnership for International Medical Education (PRIME), Global CHE Network, IHS/International Saline, A Bridge to Nations, Schuman Centre for European Studies, Ukraine Medical Outreach, De Hoop Foundation, Kardia Foundation, Teen Challenge Ukraine, FIDA International, Baptist Union of Hungary, Evangelical Free Church, Intl Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA), Lifewind International, C-A-N, YWAM-Budapest, Ministry Essentials, Central Asian Medical Union, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Vineyard Church, Neighborhood Transformation
Major Topics Discussed: Worldview and European mindset in health and church ministry; Current programs and activities that are ongoing and represented by participants in this group; The opportunity for churches to focus on health as part of their mission; How community organizations can partner with churches to address health concerns; Ways to engage the whole community in health activities in order to change the future; Defining health broadly as more than medical care; The importance of promoting wholeness and spiritual healing as well as bodily healing; The need to develop sustainable strategies and not focus just on relief. Most IMPORTANTLY, to honor God’s Mandate to us to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
Two mission statements were developed to guide the group as it moves forward.
The first statement defines the relationship of health activities within churches and communities
The second statement defines the role of the Church Health Network initiated at HOPEII that will continue and grow from this initial group
Mission Statement for Church Health Ministries: Church Health Ministries serve the community by providing whole person care in order to support and expand God’s kingdom.
Mission Statement for Church Health Network: The Church Health Ministries Network serves the body of Christ by sharing information, as well as encouraging and equipping members in order to advance Christ’s command to bring ‘health’ to ‘our neighbors.’
2. Next Steps for the Network
Work together with Healthcare Christian Fellowship International to establish an annual Healthcare Sunday on the closest Sunday to St. Luke’s Day in October, usually the third Sunday of October. Healthcare Sunday in 2012 in Europe: UK, NL, SE. There will also be an international Healthcare Sunday website
Develop collaborations among network participants in order to expand ‘kingdom reach’ in each area
Meet virtually with other members of the network, on a regular basis, to develop and share programs and approaches for Church Health Ministries
