EARTH ISLAND INSTITUTE INC

Your donation goes to support the core mission of:
EARTH ISLAND INSTITUTE INC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

Earth Island Institute (EII) was founded in 1982 by veteran environmentalist David R. Brower (1912 - 2000) to encourage the efforts of creative individuals on critical ecological issues. EII supports diverse new initiatives and provides a stable base for on-going projects. This network of projects shares central resources and benefits from the synergetic exchange of experience, ideas, and energy.

EII has been widely recognized for its unique organizational model that "reduces, reuses, and recycles" resources, freeing individual projects to communicate with their constituencies and to respond quickly to evolving environmental and social justice challenges.

Earth Island continues its pursuit of David Brower's ideal of Global CPR -- conservation, preservation, and restoration for planet Earth.

8 months ago I did not even know that there was a Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I joined this company www.crystalseas.bizzyseas.com because I read a story April/May Hanna Hou mag on the plane. Now I am devastated of what I have found out. my company is trying to get enough claimants/delegates with one voice and the same common cause to lobby the U N . The pollution is so bad that it would bankrupt a small country to clean it up, so it needs the whole world.

Unfortunately, plastic is both a blessing and a curse. I think that our society would not be there where she is now without plastic, but it would be the same, if you want to abolish the invention of the wheel, because the wheel make money (and so the economic crisis) only possible. There is only ONE solution: The consistently use of recyclable (and already recycled) plastic only.

The Little Copenhagen Mermaid.

When I was young and Santa old
And children did as they were told
I’d gaze at fish a-cycling along the Milky Way
Behind them pigs would loop the loop
As scented breezes cooled my soup
And elephants, both white and pink, a-whistling would play;

In rhubarb trees they’d build their nests,
As politicians combed their crests
While working for ‘The Populus’ throughout the live-long day.
Now Candy mountains, butter too,
Have dropped us in the Irish stew
And wine lakes, shining shore to shore, tempt us to sail away

From truth, responsibility,
And wise but dull maturity,
Straight to the sirens call are we drawn closer every day.
In pea-green boats upon a lake
of lucozade our thirst we slake
while breathing clouds of candy-floss the golden geese will lay

then we will gorge on golden eggs
as we bestride the world on legs
made out of malted-whisky kegs we flew down from Strathspey.
And foaming ‘champers’ at the mouth
We’ll strip the world from north to south
And calling Truth a blabbermouth, we’ll sing, “Calloo, Callay.”

And then the dreaded Jabberwock,
we’ll meet before we’ve taken stock
that nothing is there left to hock to pay the pipes to play
and nonsense will the last word be
at parties where the mushroom tea
is brewed by madder hats than we. Let’s desperately pray!

I am horrified of the legacy being left to my tiny son...I am so sad and hope that we can do something before we are gone and leave this mess to our most precious children.

"What have they done to the Earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences
And dragged her down"
The Doors ~ When the Music's Over lyrics
