Farmers, Food and Freedom Under Attack…
Permalink: http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?p=4014

The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP Committee) will “mark-up” S.510, the Senate version of the (sic) “Food Safety” bill on Tuesday, November 18, 2009. This is the last step before a full Senate vote, which could happen in the next few days.

The Senate bill can be read at: http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.510:

This bill has an even weaker Family Farm and Ranch, Community and Home Garden exemption than the bill (HR.2749) which passed the House at the end of July. See our blog entry at:

Thank you Cheryl. Most people just don't realize or care about where their food is coming from. I wish the family farm was a big issue with the government.

I'm with Melissa WE NEED TO GROW OUR OWN FOOD and become less dependent on the rest of the world. Did you know when you buy grapes in the supermarket they are ususally from Chile, where they use chemicals and pesticides that are banned by the FDA in this country? There sooooo much to learn.

America needs to be self sufficient when it comes to their food. The small family farm would not only feed America, but help children to become responsible & have a sense of pride in knowing that they helped put safe food on the table. In this economy with food prices so inflated & so many people losing their jobs a farm would save alot of money and provide income for the family. It's alot of work but rewarding in so many ways. I ask everyone to give this some thought & support by donating or to simply raise awareness to the issue. Please join me.

Orange County, CA doesn't even have oranges anymore. The Hawaiian Islands are starting to look like downtown L.A. What is going to happen to Hawaii when there isn't a local farming community anymore? Complete dependence on the mainland that is dependent on who? It's only $40 to join Farm Aid through their web site. So worth it.

As of today, September 30th, 2008, the "USDA" requires that all food markets label all produce with "Country of Origin" labels. This is a "tool" that the federal government regulatory agencies can utilize to educate and protect the American consumer. An educated, informed consumer will make wiser, healthier choices when they buy produce. Consumer advocacy groups applaud the decision on the part of the "USDA" as a step in the right direction for the American consumer. Recent "recalls" of produce from other countries prompted the "USDA" to take action. Now it's a question of compliance. Major props to the" USDA."
