lived in halfway all my life and in the one street, like cambuslang bookies, takeaway shops and shops n that you can buy booze out of, they keep building houses bringing peopledo , nothing for kids and adults alike here but to they put anything in that you can.
I agree,Jean.Newton, where I came from, over 50 yrs ago,Halfway,Westburn,Whitlawburn etc are all part of Cambuslang.I started this because I was fed up with the denigration of my home town.I didn't know where it would go.We now have over 900 members, some from far afield like Australia and the USA.As Scott says and I second his opinion,"it's a shithole".Well It's our shithole and we'd like to see it improved. This site is my wee bit towards that end.Our biggest claim to fame was getting a mention in the Reformer a few months ago as Cambuslang was in the running for an award called"The Plook on The Plinth"I'll keep this going as long as I think there is an interest and would appreciate any feedback, good or bad. That way I know that folk are at least visiting the site.I'd also appreciate any old videos, movies, stories etc that I can share with other members. If anyone has anyhing they'd like to share, just leave a post on here and I'll get back to you.
Hey:) Stayed in Cambuslang for about 10 years whilst my dad was a GP in Halfway surgery. Huge regeneration needed and be great to see it look and feel better. For the many youngsters growing up there. Off to look for your group/site etc, if you have any links let me know. Im on FB if we are not already 'friends' too if you can send the links there:) Well done and good luck! x
I agree, that's why I started this in the first place. You replied to Scott, saying people gave up.I think it's a mixture of people losing interest along with a lack of investment/planning from the authorities.
Since I started this cause,we have more hairdressers, wonga shops and take-aways than ever before.Wetherspoons bought the bingo hall but have now put it up for sale without turning a key.The Co-op has closed due to asbestos. We don't even have a pound shop.
A few months back.the cause was mentioned in The Reformer. They found us because Cambuslang was on the shortlist for a title called "The Plook on The Plinth".
That says it all!
