The vision of Water is Basic is to see a well drilled in every village in Sudan.
The vision of Water is Basic is to see a well drilled in every village in Sudan. Funds raised will purchase the necessary equipment to drill water wells--drilling rigs, piping, trucks to carry the equipment and Sudanese workers. Sudanese nationals will be trained to drill, operate and repair their own water wells, empowering them to impact and sustain their communities. As the Sudanese work to provide the basic need of clean water, they will see the health of their people transformed through a reduction in disease and death.
The cost for a complete drilling rig and preparation of the drilling crews takes about 6 months and costs $150,000, but once in operation, a rig can drill one well every week for a mere $3,500 each. And each of those wells can forever transform the living conditions of between 1,000-2,000 people.
It is hard to find a situation where each dollar given can do so much for so many.
1. Provide drilling equipment to Sudanese people.
2. Train Sudanese people to run drilling rigs.
3. Every well drilled provides fresh water for 1000-2000 people.
