Every 15 seconds a child dies from lack of clean water. Save the Rain is a nonprofit organization that teaches water starved communities to use the rain as a sustainable water supply. Our mission is to provide
communities with clean water in order to stop these needless deaths.
In just 4 years, with billions of raindrops
harvested, Save the Rain has helped 165,000 people in 17 different villages in Uganda and Tanzania get access to clean drinking water. With our assistance, systems have been built by the hands of local labor with materials from local suppliers. We chose rainwater harvesting because it requires no drilling or pumping. Nature is its delivery service. It is cleaner than ground water because it never passes through the soil; and because when 1 inch of rain falls on 1000 square feet, you can collect 600 gallons of water. The systems we have constructed range in size from 240,000 liters on primary schools to 5000 liters systems on village homes.
2. Every 15 seconds a child dies from lack of clean water.
3. Every day 200 million hours are spent by women and children walking for water that isn't even clean.
4. When 1 inch of rain falls on 1,000 square foot surface, you can collect 600 gallons of water.
5. It only costs $15 to bring a child clean water for the rest of their life and the life of their future offspring.
