To provide free, comprehensive medical service to burned children in Nicaragua and Central America.

The Burned Children Care Foundation, known in Spanish as Asociación Pro-Niños Quemados de Nicaragua (APROQUEN), is a non-profit organization founded in Nicaragua in 1991. Our goal is to provide free and comprehensive medical services to burned children in Nicaragua and Central America, and to one day become the region’s leading organization in specialized care, rehabilitation, burn-prevention, and training in integrative management of burn victims.

From the inauguration of our first project, the small but indispensable Burn Victim Unit in Fernando Velez Paiz Hospital in Managua, Nicaragua, to the opening of our very own world class Burn Victim Unit in Managua’s Metropolitan Hospital, we’ve developed a reputation for excellence, responsibility, and a sincere commitment to service and humanity.

We strive to treat every burned child with love and emotional support. Our mission extends far beyond simply placing bandages and treating burns; our mission is to treat patients completely, providing personalized care in the Burn Victim Unit, keeping children happy, cheerful, and busy throughout the recovery and rehabilitation process, conducting psychological evaluations to assess individual needs, instructing family members how to raise and manage child burn victims, and helping children cope with both the physical and emotional scars of their burns.

1. Provide quality, comprehensive health services to burned children from impoverished or economically needy communities.

2. Support children physically and emotionally as they recover and face the challenges of living as burn victims.

3. Reduce the number of burn-related accidents through educational campaigns and specialized training.
