Update from ICE
Hello everyone,
Our commitment to improving literacy for disadvantaged children in Canada and in war-torn Afghanistan continues to bear fruit with your help. In September, we distributed 16,000 copies of The Clever Boy and the Dangerous Animal to our literacy partners across the country. And, building on our first successful book shipment to Afghanistan last year, we’ve purchased another 11,000 Dari/Pashto language copies of the above title that are bound for Kabul later this fall.
Our Share Literacy Afghanistan project, now in its second year, is going full steam ahead and our goal is to donate 300,000 books by 2014.
The purchase of these books was made possible by funds in our P.K. Page Irwin Book Fund for Children, which was established last year to remember ICE’s first Honorary Chair: P.K. Page Irwin. Your gifts to this fund honor P.K.’s lifelong commitment to children’s literacy. Assistance from this fund, foundations and supporters like you has brought the grand total of Hoopoe Books donated across Canada to over 70,000!
