Educate addicts and the public about Substance Abuse and Chemical Dependency.
This support group is to help addicts, their friends, families, employers, coworkers and the general public better understand the disease of addiction to drugs. Alcohol is included in the definition of "drugs". Any monies donated will go to Recovery Education Centers of Alaska. The State of Alaska has the highest alcoholism rate in the nation. Treatment CAN make a difference, if people can just get treatment. Awareness creates a level of comfort and familiarity that also helps get people into treatment. By starting this group, I hope to help others suffering from addiction, and help their families understand their problems.
1. Addiction is a treatable problem.
2. The stigma surrounding addiction must end.
3. Education is the key to surviving addiction.
