About Write Jewish women back into history!

The mission of the Jewish Women's Archive (jwa.org) is to uncover, chronicle, and transmit the rich history of North American Jewish women.

From the first twenty-three Jews who landed in New Amsterdam to the Jewish response to Katrina; from Rebecca Gratz to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Jewish Women’s Archive shares stories that bring today’s challenges into focus and inspire collective activism. Through film, print, and on-line educational resources, the Jewish Women’s Archive opens the rich history of North American Jewish women to those seeking to better understand themselves and to act boldly in the world.

1. History is a vital tool for understanding who we are and what we can be; for women, knowledge of their history is essential and empowering.

2. Access to a full and inclusive history connects generations, preserves legacies, and inspires change.

3. An inclusive, representative history is multi-dimensional and encompasses multiple voices and perspectives.
