About
provide scholarships for secondary education especially to children who have lost a parent to breast cancer and children of breast cancer survivors.
The MaryEllen Locher Foundation® is a national scholarship fund established in 2002 by a mother diagnosed with Breast Cancer who once worried about her own child's education.
MaryEllen Locher, a beloved Chattanooga news anchor, publicly shared her struggles with cancer and used the disease as a reason to witness to God's love and healing power. She wanted to impact the lives of others affected by breast cancer in a purposeful way and did so by creating "Hats from the Heart," which provides warm, comfortable hats to cancer patients, and by establishing the scholarship fund which upon her death in 2005 became the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.
One in eight women will be diagnosed each year with breast cancer, and 40% of those diagnosed will die within ten years. The fastest growing population of breast cancer patients is now women under forty years of age, many with young children. These children are the walking wounded; innocent victims in this battle being fought in the heart of America's families.
This unique scholarship fund is designed to lift the financial and emotional burdens faced by this growing number of children in our country.
Our primary goal is to provide scholarships to college students in the United States through individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and private grants.
