"Taking Our Responsibility for our Youth Seriously"
This is about our daughter, Courtney "Tory" Lynn Bowser, who was held hostage, tortured, kidnapped and murdered 8-1/2 years ago at the age of 14.
TORYS Day is a day set aside to remember our little girl, "Tory" who on August 20, 2003 lost her life at the hands of evil.
Yes, it's true and we don't speak much about it, for it's still so unbeliveable...but, not a day goes by that we don't think of her.
We now, with God's Grace, continue to move forward and aim to promote family activities, while also working with law enforcement agencies to educate families on the importance of knowing who our youth's "friends" are, and keeping tabs on them no matter what - it's not easy, and the consequences can be almost unbearable, if not taken seriously.
August 20th, TORYS Day, is the day she went to be with the Lord and will be a day to bring awareness to the importance of knowing who our children "hang with" away from home, on the phone, and over the Internet. We also want to provide tools to families struggling with communication, lack of respect and a feeling of "out of control".
In the beginning of last year, January 20th, 2010, we officially launched the establishment of "TORYS Day", which would have been her 21st Birthday - we have reached many a milestone; just recently surpassing 600 members who have joined in support of TORYS Day - WE THANK YOU!
We're having people join almost every day, and that's pretty exciting to see this grow!
My blog at http://www.torysday.org will be a place for us to connect. It provided us a tool to update our family during the grueling month long trial and sentencing. We are now meeting with our government leaders in our hopes of establishing TORYS Day.
In the mean time, please share and ask friends to join our cause. Our goal is to have 1 million supporters, so we can take this number to Congress, and establish this as a National Day of Awareness!
...and Please visit the Discussion Board, where we post topics to empower parents and caretakers of our youth. May God Bless you; providing you wisdom in the awesome responsibility that you have over the youth that are in your life, and in our communities.
