Cookstove "Micro-Lease" Initiative
Cookstove "Micro-Lease" Initiative
Hello Friends. I'd like to ask you to join my cause to provide Envirofit Cookstoves to thousands of rural families in Africa. I'm asking you to donate $45 - $65 to a rural family in Liberia so that they can purchase the stove. Its a "microlease" program and the family will make payments towards the stove (subsidized by your donations). Family profiles will eventually be showcased on www.empowermentsociety.com with a Google Earth map so that you can view their progress and see first hand how your microloan helps them. Envirofit Intl has developed several stove options. SJedi, through ESI will deliver the cookstoves to Liberia and local implementor Tufeia Foundation will distribute. With your help, we can then get the cookstoves to families in rural villages who traditionally cook with wood and other biomass that contribe to indoor air quality deaths and health problems, global warming, deforestation, and gender inequality. My goal is to reach 1200 families initially and then expand the program once the initial micro-leases are paid back. This is also a social networking experiment to see how each of us can make a huge global impact. We each have between 150-250 friends on our facebook profiles. If you can ask some of your friends to join in, then we can really make a difference. Thank you for your support and I look forward to collaborating with you on this important project. Peter :-)
1. Indoor Air Pollution from cooking with biomass kills over 1.6 million people each year, of which more that 85% are women and children
2. Soot from cooking fires in the developing world is second only to CO2 in global warming emissions
3. Cooking with traditional wood fires contributes to gender inequity and massive deforestation
