Come support the animals and celebrate the holidays with Paws in the City on Thursday, November 19 from 6-10pm at Hairballs and Hair Bands at House of Blues! Entertainment will be provided by Live 80 - the best 80's cover band around! Tickets are $30 and include House of Blues admission and 2 vouchers good towards sponsored drinks, merchandise, or photos. Special donors really can make a difference!
A very special thank you to two of our biggest supporters: Samantha Reid and Tawana Couch
When they heard about the 6 dogs at the city shelter who had run out of time, they donated funds to cover their boarding costs for a month.
Then Urban Paws, a new boarding facilitiy in Deep Ellum heard about these dogs and offered to board 4 of them for free! So now these donations will be used to rescue even more dogs when their time is up at the city shelter!
Our mission is to decrease the number of dogs and cats that are killed at the City of Dallas shelter. Sometimes the city has to euthanize for space due to overcrowding. Last week was one of those times. There were 10 dogs that had been at the shelter the longest and were scheduled for euthanzia. Other rescue groups took 4 of the smallest dogs. The 6 that were left were all healthy, adorable but larger mutts who had already been vaccinated, tested and neutered. They ranged in age from 6 months to 1 year old...so young! Now they have a second chance.
Overcrowding is not just an issue at the city shelters. All rescue organizations are bursting at the seams! The economy is causing owners to give up pets more than ever. Foster homes are scarce. And even though we have boarding facilities that generously donate free or discounted space, the costs really add up every month.
We could not have saved any of these dogs without foster homes or substantial donations for boarding fees. A BIG THANK YOU goes to all of our foster parents and to those of you who donate to our General Fund which allows us to pay for the cost of boarding a dog when a foster cannot be found.
If you would like to sponsor a dog's boarding for a month, a full sponsorship is $300. However, we would be happy to receive donations at any amount! And if you can foster, even temporarily, please let us know!
