Keep it up Ernie! http://www.freep.com/article/20100124/SPORTS02/1240431/1322/This-column-the-result-of-Mr.-Egos-victory-over-Mr.-Lazybones
Many thanks to the late...great George Kell....for suggesting and bringing to Detroit the mellow voice of a legend!....the original Georgia peach....Ernie Harwell!!
It was heartbreaking to see Tiger Stadium torn down..so many memories there and Ernie Harwell was a great part of it calling games from the "corner", so it would be the next best thing to name our current ballpark after Mr. Harwell for the legend that he is. Perhaps his 'audiobook' could be installed at the park also, so youngsters in the future could hear him call a game and listen to some of his stories and they would realize why he was so beloved by Detroiters. Let's hope Comerica will be so inclined to let this happen and soon.

Ernie Harwell and Tiger baseball bring back fantastic childhood memories of my Dad. What an honor it would be to add Mr. Harwell's name to our baseball park!
Ernie, I grew up with you. I am so happy that my son was able to experience you calling the games again, and I have a great memory of him in the back seat of our car, as we drove home to Wisconsin one summer evening, when he was about 10, tuning in to each radiio station as one faded out and the next one came in, listening to you bring us the Tiger game. And, they won that one. He loved it, will not forget it. Happy birthday, we love you.
You are to baseball what a heart is to living !
Love you Ernie ! God Bless You and Lulu too !
When I was a young boy I would bounce a rubber ball off the barn door playing a simulated Tiger game and would impersonate Ernie Harwell and George Kell anouncing the game. Later in life when I announced games I would use George's voice. Much later when my Dad retired he would set on the porch in the evenings listening to Ernie and the Tigers on the Radio. Sometimes I would set and listen with him and remember old stories together. He use to get a kick out of telling the story about me, the rubber ball, the barn door and using Ernie's voice. Thanks a million Ernie for the grandest of memories, baseball, you, my Dad and the barn door. Written by a true Colavito/Tiger fan!
Happy early Birthday Ernie........looking forward to Tues. column. Glad to see Mr. Ego prevailed then and now...
You knew that spring had arrived when you heard that voice of the Tigers. I miss you Ernie. Thank you for memiors.
Ernie Harwell was the voice of the great lakes state. No matter where in Michigan you traveled, trying to find the Tiger game on radio was so much easier when the unmistaken voice of Ernie came out through your speakers. Thanks for the memories Ernie Harwell, God Bless you!
"And a man from Toledo, Ohio caught that foul ball" ... What a guy! And what a wonderful blessing us Tiger fans enjoyed in the down home mannerisms of a world-class baseball announcer! Ernie, THANX FOR THE MEMORIES !!!
Love Ernie to death. His voice IS summer, and baseball, and the Tigers. Unfortunately, until Ernie offers the kind of $$ on an annual basis that Comerica does, his name will likely not appear on the building.
When listening to a game with Ernie at the mike made it a TIGERS GAME...otherwise it was just a game on the radio.
Naming a baseball-football field was for a town hero who like and lived in that city. It should never be for advertising or raising the profit margin of a (any) bank...then they are a simple financial institution. We need a bank who loves the city and its people. Back to Tiger Stadiun or ...yes Harwell Field does have a nice ring to it....
Ernie Harwell is the greatest memory of Tiger baseball because we always listened to the game with my grandpa underneath the willow tree!<3
