The Children’s Museum Santa Barbara (CMSB) will provide extraordinary experiences with the power to transform the lives of children and their families.
The Children’s Museum Santa Barbara (CMSB) will provide extraordinary experiences with the power to transform the lives of children and their families.
The Children’s Museum will be a 21st century model for playful learning that prepares our children to meet the challenges of the future. Unlike any other local institution, this will be a dynamic, interactive environment that engages children’s bodies, minds, and hearts in joyful learning that develops the foundational skills so necessary for success.
We are especially proud that, on April 7, 2009, the City Council voted unanimously to approve a Memorandum of Understanding with the Children's Museum for the City-owned property at 125 State Street. They also voted unanimously to designate the Children's Museum project a Community Priority.
The site is ideal -- accessible to all by foot, bike, car, bus, shuttle, and even train. This prominent gateway location, right on State Street, sends a powerful message to all that, in Santa Barbara, children are valued.
The Children’s Museum is planning a 14,000 square-foot building, designed by award-winning architect Barry Berkus, with outdoor environments designed by another local award-winning firm, Arcadia Studio. The green building will include 7,000 square feet of interactive educational exhibits, rooftop garden, classroom, art studio, and a wonderful Museum Store filled with unique educational toys and books.
Now, more than ever, Santa Barbara needs a place like the Children's Museum, where all segments of our community can come together to play, learn, and share.
We want the community to get involved now and put their mark on the Children’s Museum. We invite you and your friends to help Pave the Way by purchasing pavers inscribed with the names of your children, grandchildren, or even a special teacher or friend.
Your tax-deductible donation of $500 will make it possible to complete the designs for the building and one-of-a-kind educational exhibits. Once the Children’s Museum opens in 2012, the inscribed entry pavers will forever welcome every child and family that visits.
Help us design the best Children’s Museum ever for the children of Santa Barbara. They're counting on all of us to help make their dream a reality!
