Hi Joy, No we won;t be going to Haiti. There are 3 or 4 very good US based veterinary charities who are much better placed to assist there, they have done work in the region previously.
Dona, which community are you referring to? You don;t mention the country.
Ian, Maldives: please send some more information about the vet clinic you are thinking of opening. We may be able to advertise for some volunteers to go there.
Lisa, it may have been us, I actually live in Dharamsala and help Tibet Charity with their programs from time to time. They are always looking for volunteers to help in Dharamsala with the animal program. VBB has programs in many other Tibetan Communities in India as well.
Hi Favel- is it for the Jangsa animal Saving Trust in Bhutan? I was just there in December and your coats will be very welcome. It is quite cold. However Jangsa have done a good job and the dogs are much healthier with most of them growing back their coats.
Thanks everyone else for commenting.
I support and donate to alot of animal charities in the U.K. , this one i have gone international . WELL DONE to all you vets !!!!
Hi guys, I think you do such great work, I heard about al your help in Bali. Perhaps one day you will come visit us as we are trying to promote neutering amongst our community. I see that you help establish sustainable programs in communities. I would like to ask if you could email me some of your programs as we have a company here that would like to help us but says we have to have sustainable programs, sustainable being the current buzz word here. If you could assist us with an outline of sorts here we would certainly appreciate it. My email address is donawee@eox.com.my. Thank you in advance! Ciao
hey everybody! I'm from Maldives - a country that doesn't have a single vet!! We do have a lot of pets here though. But, who would want to part with their pet because of something that could have been treated? Well, it happened to me. My African Grey died of unknown causes to me. He keeps falling and and uncontrollably flapping and his legs and muscles all harden up. I tried so hard to find a cure myself (as there are no vets here) and kept him alive for just about 6 months. He died sadly. This is why I'm trying to bring a vet to the Maldives. I'm looking for vets to work in the Maldives because I'm going to open a veterinary clinic here. Do any of you goes know any body who would be interested in working in the Maldives (Capital: Male')?
I was volunteering in Dharamsala 3 years ago when some vets came to Norbulingka (not usre if it was you guys) and I helped you round up the dogs for desexing. It was one of the highlights of my trip to know that these dogs were no longer able to add to the over population there! I also raised a litter of puppies that lost their mum. I couldn't stand to see them euthanaised as I know they were safe living within the Tibetans community or else I would have done so. Thanks guys for all your hard work - you're amazing!!!
Dear Dog people, I am making some simple fleece coats for a dog shelter in Bhutan. It is getting really cold there now and many of the dogs don't have any fur due to disease and lack of care. Last year I made many coast but am hoping to beat that this year. If anyone has an old coat they do not need - or loves sewing then let me know. I have a simple simple pattern I use. Thanks

Jackie Campbell stays for 3 weeks at ROLDA to help our local sterilization program. Her aim is to perform every day 10 sterilizations which will bring the total to 200, preventing thousand more puppies to be born unwanted and in misery, exposed to illnesses and terrible death. We need for every sterilization 10 USD to purchase partially the veterinary supplies …we will need a total of 2,000 USD for Jackie’s successful mission. Please help us if you can! Thank you from all my heart!

Hi Tim, No desexing alone is not the only thing required to reduce the population. The food source, or carrying capacity of the community must be reduced as well, this usually means a good waste/ garbage collection and disposal system. Otherwise more dogs will continue to migrate to the food source. There is a very good handbook on this produced by the International Companion Animal Management Coalition www.icam-coalition.org/ I encourage anyone remotely involved in this field to download and read this handbook. It is excellent and explains the whole population management problem and solution with guidelines on how to run an effective program, of which the desexing is just one part (but usually the most expensive part).
