The Greater Dallas Chapter is the only centralized professional source of support for Alzheimer’s families and caregivers in the Dallas and surrounding counties.
We provide a broad range of programs and services, educational classes, and support to a concentrated range of thirty-four counties serving an estimated 50,000 Northeast Texas persons with Alzheimer’s and their families.
The Dallas Chapter provides support, guidance and training for families through various programs including:
Helpline/Information and Referral offers 24/7 confidential, personal telephone support to individuals who can speak with a trained specialist. We provide callers with information about the disease, support and referrals to local resources.
Family Care Consultation provides individualized guidance on care options, interventions and resources to address a person's immediate needs and to plan for the future. This confidential services offers ongoing support throughout the course of the disease, free of charge.
Support Groups, such as Trailblazer's, are regularly scheduled small groups of caregivers who share information and experiences, build new skills, and offer peer support and ideas about issues related to dementia. Groups are facilitated by trained leaders and participation is free of charge.
Education Programs offer sessions designed to increase awareness and knowledge about the disease for both families and professional workers. Topics of these practical sessions include introductions to the disease, addressing behavioral challenges, long-term planning and much more.
MedicAlert + Safe Return is a nationwide identification and education program that reduces the risks associated with wandering and mobilizes first responders should an individual become lost. The program provides peace of mind to caregivers as well as information on home safety and wandering prevention.
