HELP!!! they put my dog on carpofen 5 or 6 days ago, blood in stool, and elevated kidney levels.... My dog is at the vet right now, and I dont know what to do
I certainly hope the class action case will be filed soon! I urge everyone who has had a dog that exhibited adverse side effect signs from Rimadyl, to contact the law firm Roni mentions.
To Jami -Yes, Rimadyl does have behavioural side effects - please go to this web site for further information:
www.srdogs.com/Pages/rimadylfr.html - become aware of the dangerous and at times deadly adverse effects of Rimadyl, and similar drugs known as Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) Please be an Informed Dog Owner - your vet does not necessarily have nor give out information on the "down" side of these drugs.
Hey there,
We took in a rescue yesterday, and found that he was on Rimadyl. We were wondering if the drug has ever had any behavioural side effects, and what they might be? Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks
My rott/lab was prescibed rimadyl once daily for arthritus I got a months supply at a time she had been on the tablet about a year and had very much improved. A new packet was left on the kitchen table and my whippet ate the lot 28 tablets!! My son who is a vet said it would kill her but she slept for a day and seemed to have no side effects. My son said it would knacker her kidneys but again seemed not to affect her. She was 10 years old at the time and lived another three years. So all I can say is that if it works for your dogs arthritus and gives you many years pain free for the dog I have to applaud this drug
My dog just died this morning... Small intestine ruptured... Sadie Sue Checkers was hit by a car on Friday Nov, 13th... Her hind quarters were the issue at hand... She was immediately taken to Georgia Veterinary Specialists... X-rays, blood work, several consultations later & she is scheduled to be operated on Monday Nov, 16th... We left her in the care of the GVS for the weekend... Everything went well... She had her femoral head removed on one side due to the size of the crack being so small... We discussed the chances of arthritis with it remaining... Without its presence there was no cause for alarm... Happy to have her home & on the mend we took intimate care in returning her home & watching over her on the afternoon of Tuesday Nov 17th... She was having difficulty urinating, no bowel movements, etc... The next day Wednesday November 18th I woke up to find that she had taken out a few staples in her hind area... We immediately called GVS & took her in to have some staples put back in... Our Veterinarian looked over her, I asked about the dosage of the Rimadyl & her pain reliever... Everything was "fine"... When we arrived back home she ate a little tuna, some beans, and a small bit of carrots... A few hours later she had thrown up...Her health was digressing... I noticed that she was becoming irritated at the surmounting pressure that was present in her abdomen... She was becoming lethargic... I figured it may have been due to the swelling in her hind quarters due to the recent Monday Nov, 16th operation... She had a bit of an issue at one moment when she was attempting to go poo... Her feces was black (meaning blood in the intestinal tract)... I called GVS to ask about constipation... I had read online that pumpkin was a great remedy to this... They advised me that this was correct... I gave her some pumpkin, it was not working so I called again less than an hour later... I asked the Dr. about her progress... Why she would be in such pain... Why was she bloating? We took her in immediately... The Dr. took notice that she was swelling at first site... She began urinating a bright yellow pee... He then took her into the observation area in the private area of the clinic to run an ultrasound... He later came back with a syringe full of the substance that he had observed under a microscope... It was a bacteria... Her entire cavity was full with this bacteria... Why? I began to ask about the Rimadyl... The Dr. explained that Pfizer in most chances would take care of the operation due to the unintentional results of the drug... He was happy that we had gotten her there so quickly... He said that most times it is all about time when a bacteria is involved in the possible outcomes of that pet... 'It looked good"... We were told that we DID NOT NEED A DEPOSIT for the operation... That they would get to her immediately... That was at 4:40 am Thursday Nov, 19th 2009... We were called at 10 am & ASKED FOR A DEPOSIT... That we were not going to be able to start surgery UNTIL they had a deposit... Sadie Sue Checkers died this morning at around noon... She had a hemorrhagic perforation in her small intestine... Not even related to a busted pelvis... We would love any advice on our situation & any possible assistance to speak with the people we need to talk with... Thank you very much, Sadie Sue Checkers parents...

Cause> Katy will Forever be in my Heart! :": :": :D
Several weeks ago our Yellow Labrador, named Champ had a problem getting up. We lifted him up by the back legs and he walked very slow. We took him to the vet and after he was examined we left him overnight for a complete blood test and x rays. The next days the vet told us that his blood was perfect. And the x rays showed he had arthriti in the spine. We were given rimadyl for Champ to take twice per day. The vet told us that we would notice a difference almost right away. We did. He got worse immediately. When we lifted him up by the back legs he could no longer stay up. His front legs were useless. My son and I carried him into the car for a trip to the vet. He loved car rides. Little did we know this would be his last. Although I truely believed he was dying in my heart, you never want to admit it. The vet gave him some other medicine and said it would be better for him to stay the night. We agreed. Two hours later the vet called and told us to come and say goodbye, he was dying. He was bleeding to death. His lungs were filling up with blood. We feel guilty because we put the pills down his throat. We hid them in pieces of bread. We thought we were doing him a favour. We got him when he was 3 months old. He died at 12 years old. We knew he wouldn't last more than one or two more years. But to go like he did. And to suffer like he did was unacceptable. We did research and discovered that this drug is dangerous. The drug maker should have made sure that vets informed dog owners of the side effects. We would never have given Champ this drug. We are thinking about getting another dog from a shelter, but it is difficult. We can never replace Champ. I will continue to use all avenues open to me to warn dog owners of this poison. Thank you for allowing me to use your site. Katy must have been a sweetheart. You are to be commended for the work you are doing. Thank you. Gary Chapman. Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
I never lost my dog to this drug, but my nan did, and I am also aware of it's dangers.
So, I guess all I can really say is, I am sorry for your losses to Rimadyl, and I am fully supporting the fight against prescribing this drug.
How do you sign the petition?
Have I already signed it by joining this cause?
And, isn't there any alternative drugs that can be used to treat ill dogs, not the deadly Rimadyl?

Thank you!
I thought i would share with you this site >RIMADYL - WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING

So sorry for all of your losses to RIMADYL. We all know how each other feels, and can give support to one another.
We lost our dear Daisy to that horrible drug, and she had every symptom on Pfizer's side effect page! It was a nightmare for this poor little girl and all of our family. You can read her story http://www.dogsadversereactions.com/n... if you care to. Too long for here, but I can tell you it is not a pretty read.
Seizures, unable to walk, weight loss, kidney problems and our former vet, did nothing, but deny it was the RIMADYL! Still makes me angry and I wonder how many more she has sealed to the same fate? She gave me no hint of what was to come....
It was very helpful to find Jean Townsend's list and so many nice and supportive people who had been there with the same problelms. Bless them all!

I just want to say: please, do some research before giving your pets any drugs prescribed by their vet!
It doesn't matter how much you trust your vet, it's important that you find out for yourselves.
Spunky was given Rimadyl for pain from a minor operation on his eyelid. His fourth dose rendeered him paralyzed and gasping for breath. The Vet was clueless until I directed him to the websites about Rimadyl. Spunky died shortly after this occurred. We are devastated. This happened 16 days ago. Please tell everyone you know about the serious side effects of Rimadyl.
