This is the Caption Action 2 newsletter for February 2012.

There have not been many new captioned web series in the past few months. We are going back to some of the hundreds of producers who were contacted previously, to ask again for captions.

Newly added is:

Divine: The Series

A dark, supernatural web series about a priest who sees the the resurrection of an immortal being named Divine.

We have also had a promise from the producers of a web series channel, Kin Community, that they will be adding captioning.

Meanwhile, there is a growing push to increase original web programming (which is not required to be captioned). Several of the bigger names in web video are investing funds in supporting the production of original shows. We don't know if any of these shows will be closed captioned.

Yahoo is going to show Electric City, a show produced by Tom Hanks. This will be an animated science fiction web series. It has been receiving quite a bit of advance publicity. Here are just a few of the articles in the media:

AOL is putting money into producing original web series. This press release from AOL Corporate lists and describes all the new programming coming from AOL:

Hulu is producing a political comedy, "Battleground," that starts this month. This is not the first original web production for Hulu; last year they produced a documentary, "A Day in the Life." Here is an article from the Wall Street Journal:

Netflix is jumping in too, by producing at least three new shows: Lilyhammer (crime comedy), Arrested Development (new episodes of a cancelled regular TV series), and House of Cards (political). The above Wall Street Journal article mentions these shows from Netflix.

YouTube itself is determined not to be left out of this new world. YouTube via Google is pouring money into the creation of new shows just for YouTube.
