It's not racism as much as it is xenophobia. They would do it to everybody, but normal Japanese citizens wouldn't stand for it so they do it to us foreigners who have no political power.

I mean, when you go to the States as a foreigner, they usually take your prints to. The process is what's different. In America, the prints are taken, checked against criminal records, and then they hold the prints for 70 days after which they are deleted. And they don't give them to other countries if they ask. That's ok by me. Japan keeps those records for much longer (I forget the exact length of time, 7 years was it?) and will give the prints to other nations that request them. It's like their building a criminal record file on you and just waiting for you to commit a crime.

to Alex Wilson : I'm afraid you're correct. Though I joined this cause and support it, the fact is that fingerprinting is going to be implemented to enter the European Union within a few years. Rumor is that the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and eventually all countries will start doing it too. Though one may argue that in Japan's case it's simple racism, the end goal is a world-wide control grid where your every move is tracked and recorded for the authorities to keep an eye on you. Today it's border checkpoints. In the future, it'll be to enter subways, get access to your apartment building, make a purchase at a store.

Having said that, though I do not condone illegal activity - if any of you are going to Japan soon, I've heard that people have had success going through the passport control at Narita withOUT getting their fingerprrints taken using the following methods : putting super glue on your finger tips, or sandpapering them until your fingerprint wears off to a point and/or gets distorted.

I'm totally shocked by the new immigration procedures. I love Japan. I've visited the country nine times. But I'm not coming back as long this bad and hideous measure is in effect.

I hate spam, but just a couple minutes, please...
Thanks for all who have joined!
And a bigger thanks to all who have invited friends!

Here is just one more reason to push the "invite" button

The Japanese government, under Justice minister (and dumbass) Hatoyama recently decided to store and make available, your biometric data for all governments that Japan has a extradition treaty with, including many countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.

So for all you people that thought your data was erased the moment you passed through immigration, think again.

They are keeping your data for "70 years"!!!!!

This information is not widely known, actually not even publicized, because Japan couldnt really care less about foreigners. We need to make our voices heard!

visit the cause page
1. CLICK INVITE!
2. select pledge, or invite all your friends
3. protect your freedom and privacy

for all our sake, lets stop "police state" ideology from taking a foothold.

**Italy, this week became the 3rd such country to fingerprint sections of its population/immigrants.

Sean has a point!
This protest isnt going to go anywhere without the action of Japanese citizens against their own government.

How about linking to a tract in plain text so that we can copy and paste it as an email signature? I send plenty of Japanese email everyday and it would help the spread the word to the Japanese.

Well I don't really care if they fingerprint me or not. When I was in Japan last June they were supposed to take my passport details at every place I stayed. Less than half of them complied to this regulation.
