Kate is our sweet little 4 y/o girl who has multiple life threatening food allergies and severe asthma. There is no cure for food allergies. The only way to prevent an anaphylactic allergic reaction is strict avoidance of her many allergens. Simple things that most take for granted like a sandwich, a glass of milk, pizza, chocolate, etc...could kill within minutes. Even being in an area where eggs have been cooked or on a play ground where kids have eaten PB&Js could be deadly.
As her parents, we have lost track of how many reactions and ER visits Kate has had. We desperately want to prevent any further reactions and pray she can live a somewhat normal life.
We recently learned of service dogs for people with life-threatening food allergies. They can detect trace amounts of her allergens in any form… flour, oils, butters, baked in, etc... Kate qualifies for such a dog however, the cost of the dog and the long training are well beyond our means (approximately $15k). So, we are reaching out to our family, friends and the goodness of strangers to help Kate out.
