Just got the call that I am a possible match for a man with non hodgkin's lymphoma. I have been registered as a donor for a yar now andI am so excited!! Hopefully I will be able to help!
Thank you all for supporting this cause on Facebook, joining Be The Match Registry as a potential living tissue donor of peripheral blood stem cells, bone marrow, or your baby's umbilical cord blood, or for making a financial donation to Be The Match Foundation.
Donating your bone marrow and saving someone's life - that sounds so cool! Don't worry, it regenerates fast :)) Their site is http://www.marrow.org or you can join their cause here on Facebook and simply give a money donation.
Donating your bone marrow, saving somebody's life - wow! I would be so excited to be match!
I joined the Registry because of my Pharmacology instructor that is going through her 2nd round of Leukemia. YES 2nd round after 2yrs the cancer returned.. I received my kit in the mail and its going to be on its way back so I hope I can be a match!! we are setting up a bllod drive her in Puerto Rico @ Centro Medicio in honor of Rebecca Camacho so she will have a "bank" of blood readily available. So if you are in Puerto Rico Please friend me and donate! or at least donate in your home town!! Become a Bone Marrow Donor today and give the gift of hope. AND BECOME AN INSTANT HERO!!
I joined the Registry last June in honor of my mother who has been cancer free since July 3, 2009, and my 12-year-old cousin who is still in the fight against ALL Leukemia. I received a call a couple weeks ago that I am a match for a 10 year old boy with ALL Leukemia and the donation date is in a couple weeks! It is an incredible feeling to know that I may help save this little boys life by doing something pretty easy on my end. Plus, the Bone Marrow Donor Center has been great! They are even paying for my gas money to the hospital along with my parent's gas money and hotel room for the 4-hour drive they will make to be with me on donation day!
I just registered this evening and my sample kit is on its way. I have always been an organ donor but have been looking for a way to help now. I was inspired by a story I read in our local newspaper and it is sad to say but that is the first time I heard about Be the Match. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our friends and families to get the word out about this wonderful service. Wouldn't you want someone to register if you or a loved one needed a donor? It is a simple thing to tell everyone you know. Please do it for your kids, your friends, your family. Let the good fortune and good health you have been blessed with help someone in need.
Updated: The cause has reached 66,000 members.
My brother, Buz, needed a bone marrow transplant in 1992 to deal with the rapidly growing lymphoma throughout his body. We were devastated to learn that not only were there no matches in our family, but the bone marrow registry had no matches. As a result he had to undergo an experimental treatment method of removing his marrow, cleaning it, and putting it back in. The weakness this caused was one of the contributors to his death. I'm told this method is practiced more often with better results now, but it would be so much easier if a marrow match could be found!
This cause is near and dear to my heart. Please join with me to raise awareness about joining the bone marrow registry. -Brian
To all those considering registering - please do! ESPECIALLY, Native Americans. It is even more difficult for Native Americans to find a match. The more people that are registered, the better and faster the chances of finding a match for someone desperately in need.
