Posted by Kylie on Aug 17

It was 19 years ago when I first walked through the doors, (17 years old) of the Cudlee Creek Campsite. I didn't want to be there as "I didn't have a problem". I was introduced to a female staff member, who was really happy to see me, she was warm and loving. She kept saying "love this", "God that" it was horrible and I decided this was not for me. I left mumbling and swearing that I would never go back.

Maybe 3 or 4 days later I, as a born again Christian, arrived at Commercial… Read More

Teen Challenge South Australia - Our Story
We are a Christian, non profit community organisation whose primary aim is to assist young people between the ages of 15 and 35.

Our staff are excellent. Most are volunteers. They are committed to breakthroughs in lives.
Mission Statement

To powerfully influence troubled youth to reach their full potential.

We create a framework that challenges people to reach their fullest potential - Spiritually, Socially, Educationally and Occupationally. We provide community-based drug education, prevention and restoration programs.

Teen Challenge is the oldest, largest and most successful program of its kind in the world. Established in 1958 by David Wilkerson, Teen Challenge has grown to more than 170 centres in the United States and 250 centres world-wide. If you would like to know the story of how Teen Challenge started it's told in the book "The Cross and the Switchblade".

The success of the Teen Challenge approach to helping men and women trapped by addictions has been seen in many cultures around the world.

We are not called to remain within the four walls of a building.

Teen Challenge has a special ministry of standing between the street and the church. Our ministry is not just in the church or our centre but also on the street, in the youth clubs and schools. We try to stay current with youth affairs. It is our goal to be effective in ministry. We want to have answers for the people who come. It is our desire to do more than simply pray for people, important as that is.
Teen Challenge in South Australia is unique in several respects.

1. We have a high level of outreach and provide food and clothing for the needy
2. We operate a phone counselling service
3. We operate a church
4. We provide long term accommodation
5. We are primarily a volunteer organisation

I remember reading "The Cross and the Switchblade" when I was about 14. I wanted to work in Teen Challenge but thought that meant going to America. Many years have gone by and now I've been with TC South Australia 11 years.

When did you first read The Cross And The Switchblade?

I was working at the Royal Adelaide Show & it was there I had my 1st encounter with Teen Challenge, with their stand. The next year I purposely looked out for Teen Challenge so I could visit again , that was when I met Morrie. I even looked after the stand for several hours & met a wonderful bunch of people such as Rangi. I saw in these guys, such a family atmosphere but God's presence. It was also when I realized that some dear friends of mine were attending TC Chapel that I wanted to tag along & check out this church more. That was nearly 2 years ago & I am happy to say I am still enjoying it! I even got re- baptised in October 2007. Not every church is perfect & you get the good with the bad, but I love TC Chapel, & the people you meet accept you for who/what you are, it doesn't matter where you have come from,or what your past was like, as long as we encourage/support one another in Christian love & just look forward to that glorious day when we meet Jesus face to face.

I think I finally found the discussion board lol. I love Teen Challenge, especially the chapel on Sundays. I greatly admire our 2 Pastors, Graham & Grant, they are 2 awesome men of God, they really do have a heart after God. I am looking forward to the excitement of having church in the city & the changes, & I am believing for growth but most importantly for God to continue working in our lives & the lives of others that come in contact with Teen Challenge. I would like to do more in TC, however at this stage I am the Children's Church leader. I love my small band of volunteers who help each week..(Amanda you rock) I am deeply honored to serve in this capacity within the chapel, & more honored that our awesome pastors trust me in this vital ministry . I love to serve the Lord wherever & whenever I can. Its great to be able to help raise up godly young men & woman for God knowing that our kids are the next generation.
