About Save Our Wild Salmon

America elected President Obama because we wanted change. This call for change now has real meaning for the recovery of wild salmon and steelhead in the Columbia and Snake Rivers.

With a new president and a new Congress, we now have an incredible opportunity to create a recovery plan for the Northwest that will restore a river, recover wild salmon, create jobs, build a clean energy future and protect the West Coast's way of life.

For the last several years, the Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition has reached out to people and constituencies that are affected by the fate of salmon and the four lower Snake River dams, including business owners, farmers, and the public and private utilities that buy energy from the system of federal dams in the Columbia Basin. The science and economics are clear; lower Snake River dam removal is the most cost-effective and biologically certain path to restoring healthy runs of wild salmon and steelhead. And we can only get there with solutions that serve salmon and people.

President Obama and our elected leaders, especially in the Northwest, must tackle the challenge of achieving a lawful, science-based, job-creating plan to restore Columbia-Snake River salmon in a way that that also helps build efficient, modern transportation and clean, salmon-friendly energy infrastructure. With this election, a window for effective action has opened. It is time for our leaders to engage in these issues, bring stakeholders to the table, and build the solutions that will save wild salmon and protect the communities that depend upon them.

1. Restore a river.

2. Save salmon.

3. Create jobs.

4. Build a clean energy future.
