FIAO - Multi-Cultural Community Center

The Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn (FIAO) invites you to support the building of “Il Centro”.

FIAO is in the midst of constructing a state-of-the-art cultural community center, which will be located at 8711 Cristoforo Colombo Blvd (18th Avenue) in Brooklyn.

During the past thirty-one years, the Federation of Italian-American Organizations has provided a gamut of services directed at improving the quality of life of individuals and families with particular focus on immigrants, seniors, and youth.

These services include:
· social assistance,
· education,
· after-school and recreational programs, which are aided by FIAO's Beacon Community Center,
· scholarships to high school graduates pursuing higher education, and
· cultural initiatives such as the Brooklyn Columbus Day Parade and the exchange program.

The center will create a focal point for business development, arts, culture, family, and youth services. It will serve as a home for the preservation of Italian heritage.

Il Centro will also serve the entire community and will offer an array of activities and services such as:
· economic development resources,
· community meeting space,
· family service programs,
· job training classes,
· fitness center,
· pool,
· art & exhibition space,
· theater performance,
· kitchen for cooking classes,
· classrooms for language & cultural programs, and
· a multi-media library.

It will be a place where individuals of all ages can attend, as well as future generations to come. All services are FREE of charge.

The project will cost $18 million, of which $12 million has been gathered from borough, city and state support and private sources.

We still need to raise:
· $3 million for the construction including our “up front” costs, and
· $3 million to endow the center and the many programs that will be housed there.

This project relies on the generosity of our patrons and community members. When you contribute to the “Building a Stronger Community” Campaign, you become our partner in building a better and brighter tomorrow for our children and our neighbors.
