Stopping the wholesale destruction of Oregon's Tillamook State Forest
Stopping the wholesale destruction of Oregon's Tillamook State Forest
518,000 acres of beautiful, ecologically unique, public state forest land in the Northern Oregon Coast Mountain Range is in danger!
Current law requires Oregon to manage state forests in a sustainable manner for its Greatest Permanent Value (GPV) that provides environmental and social benefits as well as economic benefits.
This means that Oregon must manage these lands for multiple purposes, including clean drinking water, carbon sequestration and recreation.
The governor and the Oregon Board of Forestry is giving timber harvest precedence over all other purposes. On June 3rd with the encouragment of Governor Kulongoski, the board decreased protections from 50% older complex forest to only 30%. They also disregarded the Salmon Anchor Habitat strategy, and have asked the Dept. of Forestry to redifine GPV to make it a Greatest Timber Value plan.
This is totally unacceptable! We need you to make some noise. This is our forest, our playground and our fragile threatened and endagered fish, wildlife and plants they are gambling with.
Contact the Governor and tell him how you feel about what is happening before us:

1. Permanent Protection for special areas of Oregon's public state forest land
2. Protect our vital Salmon Anchors
3. Reduce global warming by allowing a healthy forest to stand and store carbon
4. End the timber-tied conflict of interest on the Board of Forestry
