Ban Shrine Circus

I would like to encourage everyone to send an e-mail to the head of the Shrine Circus at roger@shrinecircus.com urging them to quit using animal acts in their fundraisers. Please make sure that your messages are polite. Also, if the Shrine Circus comes to your town, please let your city council and local Shrine Temple know how you feel. Even one voice can make a difference!

This is a copy of an email that I sent to the head of the Shrine Circus

Dear Sir,
   My name is Pamela Gehring and I am the leader of Stop Cruelty To All Animals
(  www.causes.com/causes/2593-stop-all-cruelty-to-animals (http://www.causes.com/causes/2593-stop-all-cruelty-to-animals) ). I am e-mailing you to implore you to quit employing circuses that use animals in their acts.

Acts often favored by the Shriners include the George Carden Circus, Jordan World Circus, Tarzan Zerbini Circus, Circus Gatti, Royal Hanneford Circus, and Hawthorn Corporation, among others. Every exhibitor of Shrine-leased animals has failed to meet minimal federal standards under the Animal Welfare Act for the care of  animals used in the circus.

The USDA has cited Shrine Circus animal exhibitors in the past for failing to provide veterinary care; failing to provide adequate food, water, and shelter from the elements; and failing to handle animals in a manner that ensures their safety as well as public safety. Animals used in Shrine circuses have rampaged, causing human deaths and injuries.

Thankfully, there are some Shriners that are rethinking the use of animals in their circus fundraisers as it becomes recognized as archaic, unsafe, and inhumane.

I again urge you to abandon circuses involving animal acts! It would help not only the animals who are tortured by these circuses, but would help to enhance the reputation of the Shiners as not only people who care about children, but people who care about all life.
