HOW YOU CAN HELP THE HOMELESS:
EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS-Take time to learn about this important issue. Then, talk to your family, friends and colleagues about the causes, consequences and potential solutions to homelessness. A simple dialogue can do a lot of good.
ENGAGE IN ADVOCACY-Advocate for policies and programs that effectively serve the homeless on the local, state and federal levels. Share your concerns and ideas with public officials and the media--tell them that ending homelessness is important to you.
VOLUNTEER-Join others in your community who are mobilizing to do something about homelessness. Volunteer to serve a meal, sort donated clothing or spruce up a shelter. Volunteering not only provides much-needed assistance to the non-profit community, it shows others that you care about the issue.
DONATE-Have a closet full of clothes that you don't wear anymore but are still in good condition? Travel a lot and collect the hotel shampoo, soap and razors? Money burning a hole in your wallet? Homeless service providers can use all of those! Call your favorite nonprofit and ask if they accept the items you want to donate. They will love to hear from you.
REFER PEOPLE TO MIRIAM'S KITCHEN-If you see someone on the street in DC who looks like they are in need of help, tell them about Miriam's Kitchen. We will help them get the care they need.
