I AM HARD OF HEARING AND TOTALLY SUPPORT THIS DEAF CULTURE AND HAVE HEARING PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND OUR SITUATIONS AND HOPEFULLY DOWN THE ROAD THINGS WILL BECOME EASIER ON OUR DEAF LIFE !!!!!
I am currently enrolled in an American Sign Language Level 2 course at a community college in my area. It's always been a goal of mine to learn ASL for two reasons: 1) I feel that the Deaf community and Deaf Culture are important and integral parts of society and I would like to learn how to better communicate with those who utilize it as their primary language. 2) American Sign Language is simply a beautiful language and it has always sparked an interest in me. Now, as a Human Resources team member at my place of work, I feel it is more important than ever for me, as well as my peers, to be able to communicate with the Deaf community to create a better workplace for everyone.
Updated: The cause has raised $500.
As a partially deaf person who never learned ASL because I went to a mainstream school this cause is very important. I am lucky that I can read lips but I wish that I learned ASL because it would have made a lot of things that were and are very difficult for me easier.
Being deaf has been a challenge, and an adversity... but I have learned to soar with the winds of adversity. I dont think I would be in graphics design and self employment if I wasnt deaf. probably would be out there - jobless and desperately looking for scarce jobs in this recession.
I have a Down Syndrome, Autistic, O C D, Mute Child and he and I both learned to sign language. He communicates a 100% better no more screaming ,throwing things, hitting his head on the floor, to me it is our own little secret language or code no one understands
We all know why this cause means the world to me. Any support is help, especially for children in lower-income families. I know the holidays were tight but ten bucks could make a huge difference, I've seen it with my own eyes and done it with my own wallet.

I studied ASL for three years at our local community college and I am Hard of Hearing. ASL has opened a whole new means for me to communicate with like minded and good nature people. I only wish ASL was taught in grade school when I had the most problems.
