My first grandchild is deaf bilaterally and is also a bilateral CI recipient. We have all been learning sign language together, although she is much more advanced in the language than we are. We take classes offered only once a year at the elementary school she attends and I just wish the school district would realize how important it is for families to learn asl to communicate with their children and siblings. One class a week for 8 weeks a year just isn't cutting it. I love learning the language and using it as often as possible.
I was born with hard of hearing and Pain in the ass for you. You will love sign language in ASL
The high school I am attending offers an ASL class to whoever wants to take it, and I love it! :)
Another reason is I born deaf with left ear 5 percent loss and right ear 0 percent loss.
Anyone have any info on how I can proceed with becoming a Certified Sign Language Inpterpreter in MI?? Aced all 3 of my college courses and woudl ove to continue on to be certified! I love the culture!
Study Italian Sign Language in Italy
The Centre for International Programs and Services (CIPS) and linguistics Ph.D candidate Joseph Hill will host a presentation on the "Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Culture" program offered by the Siena School for Liberal Arts (SSLA) in Italy. The presentation will be held at SLCC atrium on Tuesday, October 13, at noon. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.
The SSLA is located in the city of Siena in the heart of the Tuscany countryside. The SSLA Summer 2010 program offers courses on LIS, Italian deaf culture, and Italian language. The program is available for deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing college students who want to earn course credits.
The program starts on June 9 and ends on July 3. SSLA also offers a summer program for deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing adults who are working professionals in deaf- and ASL-related fields. This program starts on July 4 and ends on July 17.
If you are unable to attend the October 13 presentation, please contact joseph.hill@gallaudet.edu to get information about the SSLA Summer 2010 program.

thanks
I loved Blues Clues (when I watched it with Steve), partially because he incorporated signing with his clues and songs.
