SURPASSING “THE GREEN CAR” LIMIT
Tesla Roadster Goes 313 Miles on a Single Charge
PhysOrg.com) -- Tesla is becoming synonymous with high performance electric cars. Indeed, the Tesla car company has been making efforts to create a brand of sports car that runs on electricity, and does so in a way that is convenient to motorists. In an effort to prove that it can be done, a Tesla Roadster has gone 313 miles on one charge. This is a new world record -- one that breaks the previous record of 241 miles, set by another Tesla Roadster.

AIMING TO MAKE FOSSIL FUELS OBSOLETE! A DREAM RESEARCHERS KEEP ON BRINGING CLOSER TO A REALITY!:O)
When it is needed, such as at night or at peak times, the heat is released by passing the molten salt through a steam generator that drives a turbine to produce electricity. The cooled salt is then recirculated to the receiver for re-heating. The project brings the dream of a solar system that generates electricity in the dark to a reality, AND AVOIDS THE NEEED TO USE FOSSIL FUEL PLANTS FOR BACKUP ELECTRICITY GENERATION.

Marin pioneering new 'smart' energy highway
Richard Halstead
Posted: 11/01/2009 10:02:42 PM PST
Field-testing has begun in Marin County for one of the nation's first "smart grid" demonstration projects that ultimately could help modernize the nation's power grid.
It's the type of system touted by the Obama administration, which announced $3.4 billion in government grants last week designed to advance an overhaul of the country's power distribution network.
"We are deeply committed to this effort," Supervisor Charles McGlashan said Friday, when local and federal authorities gathered to celebrate the start of the test phase of the project.
Grids - the wires and other equipment that distribute electric power - can be made "smart" by adding various bits of information technology to them, such as sensors, digital meters and computers.

OCTOBER 24TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION
In case you missed pictures of the first official action for Oct. 24, here's the scene at 6:29 a.m. on Brooklyn Hill in Wellington.
Here's how one witness described the scene: "Beneath the mighty whirr of the wind turbine, and looking out over stunning views of a still sleeping harbour, New Zealanders gathered together before sunrise this morning to be the first people in the world to welcome in the dawn of a momentous day: October 24th 2009: International Day of Climate Action.

Solar panels and geothermal wells coming to Yonkers, White Plains housing
By Ernie Garcia • elgarcia@lohud.com • October 18, 2009
Housing authorities in White Plains and Yonkers will receive $5.8 million in federal grants to install energy-efficient technologies like solar panels and geothermal wells.
The White Plains Housing Authority will receive $1.8 million to install solar panels on the roof of 86 Dekalb Ave. that will produce enough energy to power five apartments in the 167-unit public housing complex. The grant also pays for upgraded heating and hot water systems and water-use reduction devices that will save three fuel-truck deliveries a year and millions of gallons of water.

A truly GREEN energy future includes rational and efficient use of energy, for there is no point at all in generating green power and them squandering it!
DISADVANTAGES OF Plastic Waste to Diesel, Oil, Fuel - Thermofuel Process:
• Lack of versatility. Many waste-to-energy technologies are
designed to handle only one or a few types of waste (whether
plastic, biomass, or others). However, it is often impossible
to fully separate different types of waste or to determine the
exact composition of a waste source. For many waste-to-energy
technologies to be successful, they will also have to become
more versatile or be supplemented by material handling and
sorting systems.
• Waste-gas cleanup. The gas generated by processes like
pyrolysis and thermal gasification must be cleaned of tars and
particulates in order to produce clean, efficient fuel gas.
• Conversion efficiency. Some waste-to-energy pilot plants,
particularly those using energy-intensive techniques like
plasma, HAVE FUNCTIONED WITH LOW EFFICIENCY OR ACTUALLY CONSUMED MORE ENERGY THAN THEY WERE ABLE TO PRODUCE.For
example, many sites in India have been forced to shut down
because they were not financially sustainable once government
subsidies ran out.
• High capital costs. Waste-to-energy systems ARE OFTEN QUITE EXPENSIVE TO INSTALL. Despite the financial benefits they
promise due to reductions in waste and production of energy,
assembling the financing packages for installations is a major
hurdle, PARTICULARLY FOR NEW TECHNOLOGIES THAT AREN'T WIDELY ESTABLISHED IN THE MARKET.
• Opposition from environmental and citizen groups. Because
traditional incineration-based waste-to-energy technologies
CAN PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT POLLUTION FROM THE BURNING OF WASTE,ENVIRONMENTAL AND CITIZEN GROUPS HAVE OFTEN OPPOSED SUCH SYSTEMS. Developers argue that advanced technologies like
pyrolysis release few emissions, and that any pollution that is
released is captured with emissions-control systems. However,
MANY ACTIVISTS REMAIN UNCONVINCED, AND SOME EXPRESS CONCERN THAT USING WASTE AS A FEEDSTOCK FOR ENERGY GENERATION WILL CAUSE MUNICIPALITIES TO ABANDON THEIR EFFORTS IN WASTE REDUCTION, RECYCLING, AND COMPOSTING.
