About Our Dreams Will Not Be Recruited!

BAY-Peace supports and empowers Bay Area youth to confront militarism and other forms of violence through youth organizing and artistic resistance.

BAY-Peace cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and understanding among working class students of color who are often the targets of institutional and cultural violence. Our Youth Action Team develops Hip Hop, spoken word poetry, and forum theatre as tools in a process of self-reflection and critical analysis. We use “Resistance Art Projects” to guide our peers toward greater awareness of oppressive social structures and ways to actively resist them.

We provide youth-led workshops and trainings to give young people real information about the military that recruiters don’t cover. We are reaching out to youth all over the Bay Area to organize for better alternatives.

The BAY-Peace Youth Action Team's three-year Youth Manifesto Campaign achieved success when the OUSD passed our Student Privacy and Equal Access Resolution last May. Since then, we've helped win similar resolutions in Berkeley, San Francisco and suburban Chicago. Student Privacy Resolutions mandate school districts to inform students about their right to opt out of the JAMRS private military recruiting database. JAMRS is a tool for the military to target their recruitment pitches using student's personal information. Military Recruiters are targeting low income youth of color to fight at the same time that education budgets are being cut. The BAY-Peace Youth Action Team is fighting back and demanding Better Alternatives for Youth!

Here's a video we made with The Factory about the JAMRS military recruiting database:

Please help us reach our goals by sending us a donation through our fiscal sponsor, the Peace Development Fund.

1. $5,000,000,000 spent on military recruitment each year (and counting). We want this money to be spent on positive things in our communities.

2.. Your donation will be used to support Oakland youth who are doing this important work.

3. No donation is too small! If you can donate today, you will be helping make Better Alternatives for Youth a reality!
