Stop sexual assault. Provide resources to programs working with survivors. Bring criminals to justice by furthering DNA testing.
CAWEW is working to provide resources to greatly reduce sexual assault and also to bring rapists to justice. We work with SARTs (Sexual Assault Response Teams) to provide financial resources, training, and other needed tools so that they can better serve survivors of sexual assault (many of which are under age 8). We also are working on providing the financial resources to have every sexual assault DNA evidence kit tested. These DNA kits are oftentimes untested for years and criminals are free to repeat their crimes in the meantime simply due to lack of public funding. In many cases, if they were tested in a timely manner, criminals would be brought to justice after their first or second offense instead of their fifth. 1. Rapists, on average will rape 5 times before being caught.
2. California has a huge backlog of un-DNA-tested sexual assault kits. These kits need to be DNA tested to bring rapists to justice.
