as a MD totally opposed to the use of non-human animals I congratulate you for your great work! I am also a proud PCRM member
I remember in high school doing something to a fish's respiration and being so traumatized that I walked out of class and decided that science was not for me. I still regret not standing up for that fish. How sad that compassionate students, who would make wonderful health workers, should be expected to perform such cruel acts when non animal alternatives are far superior teaching tools.
Could it be the possibility that breeders nation wide must be registered and that if regualar people (non breeders) will NOT be allow to breed their pets for a profit/business?
I have just joined this cause and signed the petition. Hope you will do the same.
Thanks for bring this to my attention, I am so glad that they stopped! I feel so good that I helped animals be saved.
Wow... I am a University of Michigan Alumnus and had NO idea this was going on! So glad they stopped doing it!
Just heard the news that the University of MI ends its live dog lab. Together we can make a difference! Anybody else as happy as I am? Thanks to everyone for caring.
What can we do to help? I know that writing to the state congressman has been done to help the cruelity of horses and there is no a bill trying to be passed in senate, maybe this would help..Maybe we al just need to get in our car, trucks suvs and head to Michigan and really make a scene, maybe call the local newpapers, What ever it takes we all need to do something quick before one more innocent life is destroyed.....
Dear Ms. Coleman,
My husband is a Michigan native and we've often thought of sending our children up to U of M for college. However those thoughts ended today when I found out about the use of live animals in your Advanced Trauma Life Support course. It is my understanding that simulations can be executed with dummies or models rather than on organic beings.
You are using animals from the pound. These animals more than likely were someone's pet and are trained to think people are their friends. Furthermore, the use of LIVE animals in your training brings up thoughts of experiments by the Japanese and Germans during World War II. It makes me sick and as an animal lover and concerned citizen I am begging you to ban the use of live animals from this program.
I will continue to advocate against your university and ATLS until your policies change.
They have dolls that they use for CPR training, can they not do the same if they need a dog's corpse. Simple, use a model, not the real thing. They have done this over & over, a dog has not evolved that much they need to keep up this practice. With today's technology we have computers & other learning methods. There is no need for this barbarack practice.
God, please help these poor defenseless animals. Those people at UM should be arrested for animal cruelty. How do people like these live with themselves and their cold hearts. I believe there is a "special" place for people that are cruel to God's creatures.

Dogs must be treated humanely! Glad there's an organization that overseas this.
